Dryopteris affinis

Scaly Male Fern. Semi-evergreen fern producing a rosette of upright fronds up to 1.2m in length. Yellow green at first, later rich green, with dense and persistent golden scales covering the stems. Best in moist, humus rich soils but tolerates drier conditions. Remove old fronds in spring to allow new fronds to unfurl.
