Daphne mezereum rubra
Small deciduous shrub. Scented purple-red flowers up the stems in Feb/March followed by poisonous scarlet fruits. Needs good moist soil and good drainage; thrives on chalk soils. Height 60cm (2ft) CAUTION: TOXIC IF EATEN/SKIN IRRITANT.
