Why Indoor Palms...
Tender palms will bring an elegance and tropical beauty to any home. They imbue a relaxing and calming atmosphere and also help with air purification.
We have a few fantastic varieties here in the Glasshouse, here are just a few of our favourites:
Chamaedorea elegans (parlour palm) is a native of Central America. It requires humid conditions and a minimum temperature of 16C.
Dypsis lutescens (bamboo palm) is a native of Madagascar, it thrives in bright light and needs a winter minimum of 13C.
Howea forsteriana is a native of Lord Howe Island and is tolerant of cooler temperatures and drier atmospheres. It will be happy outside from June to October.
Rhapis excelsa ( bamboo palm) is from China and Japan. It requires humidity and shade from hot sun with a minimum temperature of 12C.
Washingtonia filifera hails from Mexico, Arizona and California. It requires full sun and moderate humidity.
Most palms can be moved into a brighter location during winter, but their leaves need protection from sun scorch through glass. Allow the surface of the compost to dry before watering. Ensure that the compost never becomes soggy or dries completely and feed regularly throughout the summer.
