The Cutting Garden

The season has begun for flowers!

Last year the cutting garden was born- on an old disused area of land at the back of the nursery. Overgrown and unused, this parcel of land became the focus of my attention, alongside Head Gardener Darren. Our aim, to transform it into living breathing garden for the purpose of cutting flowers, to be shared and enjoyed with those with a passion for flowers. The rejuvenation of this area has been a thing of beauty to watch, and the magic has been witnessed by those who came to some of our workshops. It wasn’t the easiest year to begin such a project. With the wettest, darkest spring and a serious slug issue! The first year proved to be challenging but despite the many, many, many slugs- plants survived and then flowered and the season was a success!

Now, the cutting garden is already full of plants either waiting to bloom or already in bloom. This year I am lookinig to host more workshops for all to enjoy throughout the year, with the first at the end of this month, click HERE for details.

We thought we would share with you a series of images of the growth and blooming of the cutting garden for you to enjoy and feel inspired. And for those of you itching to get growing and talking flowers, please join us this year on one of the workshops or keep an eye out on Fridays for flower bouquets on sale in the shop.

“A flower is not only a flower. It is made only of non-flowering elements- sunshine, clouds, time, space, earth, minerals, gardeners and so on. A true flower contains the whole universe.”  Thich Nhat Hanh- Buddhist monk and poet.
