Exotic Plant Fair 2026
Want to know how to look after exotic plants? Chances are you already know more than you think.
The definition of exotic is simply non native and coming from a foreign place. In common usage we generally mean unusual, striking, rare, fascinating, glamorous, bizarre or even plain weird and that’s exactly what you can expect to see. 75% or more of the plants in UK gardens and pretty much all our houseplants are exotic. Some grow very happily, perhaps reminding us of foreign holidays and warmer climes. Some we are so familiar with they are taken for granted. Some need winter protection and some are more at home indoors, and a few really do need a more specialist environment where we can control light, humidity and water.
Understanding the origins and environment of the plants native habitats will help us ensure we give the right care and plant in the right place. Cornish gardens are justly famous for their subtropical lushness. Our mild damp winters are very suited to a jungle like garden. This look can be achieved with large leaved plants and big bright flowers.( Think tree ferns, bananas, Colocasia, Cannas etc.)
For the same look indoors there are many Palms, Alocasias and Orchids available. Our nursery is full of inspiration whatever style you decide on and the specialist collectors and nurserymen at our fair can also provide some exceptionally exotic plants and all the expertise you need to grow them successfully.
