October’s Houseplant of the Month

Adorning our new Collectors Corner in the glasshouse this month is the famous Philodendron micans, Philodendron scandens more glamourous cousin.

Philodendron micans is a trailing or climbing plant with velvety, heart-shaped leaves. The foliage on this plant is truly special, the new growth is edged with pink, fading to rich green-purple colour with bronze undertones.
Care tips: This is an unfussy plant that will tolerate lower light levels, but will thrive in bright, indirect light. If you find the plant becomes less compact over time though, move it to a brighter spot. Allow the top inch of compost to dry out before watering again. Feed with a houseplant feed once a month in spring/summer.
