Ten top tips and garden jobs to be getting on with in April

1.Keep weeds under control - work done now will pay dividends later in the year.
2. Sow hardy annuals direct into beds and borders.
3. Finish planting dahlia tubers and summer bulbs such as lilies and eucomis.
4. It's a good time to feed your lawn and treat for moss.
5. Now their crowns are showing growth, divide and replant herbaceous perennials.
6. Apply a light sprinkling of general fertiliser to your flower beds and shrubs to help them off to a flying start - don’t forget your hedges!
7. Sow cucumber, courgette, tomatoes and beans under glass.
8. Direct sow early salad crops, lettuce, radish and carrots.
9. Make sure climbing roses are securely fastened to their supports.
10. As grasses start to grow now is the time to divide and replant, tidy up evergreen varieties and cut back your deciduous ones.
