Duchy Launches Premium Garden Tool
Collection
Duchy Originals, the Company established by HRH The
Prince of Wales, is taking a leap into the gardening arena
with the launch of a premium range of over 15 new garden
tools made in the UK and based on classic Victorian
designs.
The Duchy Garden Tools Collection has been designed and
crafted using drawings from the Victorian archives. They
combine the finest materials with traditional British
craftsmanship to produce a range inspired by the tools of
yesteryear. Made with the highest attention to quality,
strength and function, this premium range has been created
especially for the passionate leisure gardener.
The range includes 16 classic digging, cultivating,
cutting and hand tools and well as two watering cans.
Prices range from £15 (hand tools) to £65 (digging
tools). Quite appropriately, the tools will go on sale
first at the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery Lostwithiel,
Cornwall from late February. Duchy will also be selling
the tools at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show in May.

The Duchy Originals brand is renowned for being one of
the UK’s leading organic food producers. It was
established in 1990 by The Prince of Wales to promote
sustainable farming and food production through the
manufacture of a range of premium organic products and to
generate funding for the Prince’s charities. A similar
desire to support sustainable woodlands and UK
craftsmanship has driven the production of the Duchy
garden tool range, which will be produced to the same
impeccable standards as the brand’s food products.
To develop the tools Duchy has partnered with leading
garden tool manufacturer Caldwells, a UK family firm that
has been making high-quality tools since 1770. They have
all been produced within the UK to the highest British
standards.
A key feature of the tools are the unique design
features and the quality of production. For instance, the
digging tools are solid forged from one piece of stainless
steel with an extra long 12" socket to maximise
strength and prevent handle breakages. All the tools have
wood barrel waxed handles for natural
environmentally-friendly protection against the elements
and the steel is hand polished to a mirror finish.
Another key attribute of the range is the ethical
sourcing of Ash. HRH The Prince of Wales, himself an
enthusiastic gardener, is also an active campaigner for
more sustainable woodland management. He has always been
keen to encourage ways of maintaining commercially viable
forestry working in harmony with nature.
The wood used in the production is all Forestry
Stewardship Council (FSC) sourced. All of the hand tools
are made using Duchy of Cornwall Ash sourced from HRH The
Prince of Wales’s estates. The digging and cultivating
tools use Ash sourced from sustainable forests in Canada.
As with all Duchy products all profits made from the
sale of the tools will be donated to The Prince of Wales’s
Charitable Foundation. To-date over £4.5 million has been
donated to the charity since the Company’s inception in
1990, going to a wide variety of environmental, community,
education and health projects.
