March

Despite the mild winter, it’s easy to forget that we are not out of the woods regarding those cheeky late frosts, so be wary and don't leave tender plants outside just yet.
  • Cut back established hardy fuchsias hard.
  • Start sowing hardy annuals, broad beans and peas.
  • Plant out early potatoes and onions.
  • Open up greenhouse doors and vents on warm days.
  • Tidy up and divide perennials.
  • Last chance to get late bare root fruit and hedging planted out.
  • Buy plants to fill in gaps in borders.
  • Sow your grass seed.
  • Plant out rhododendrons as these are mainly in bud.
  • Buy and plant out early flowering camellias. We have a beautiful selection here at the nursery, so why not treat yourself?
  • Cut your Hybrid Tea and Floribunda roses back hard.
  • Cut back established clematis and tie in as necessary.
  • Prune back hard shrubs such as Mahonias and some trees such as Salix and Cornus.
  • Keep bird feeders and fresh water topped up - those feathered friends will be very thankful!

As always - happy gardening!
