Rob’s notes on Hydrangeas

This often over-looked but flamboyant of shrubs is a firm favourite for summer colour in many of our gardens. They can be grown in borders. as a flowering hedge or planted in containers, preferring soil on the acid side.  Hydrangea Macrophylla (mop-headed variety) are particularly happy in partial shade. but will do just as well in full sun, as long as there is adequate moisture.  The flower colour for Hydrangea Macrophylla can be influenced by the addition of 'hydrangea colourant', which contains aluminium sulphate. If you want to give this a try, you can buy it from us in 250g bottles at £3.99. We currently have a varied display, many in full bloom, available at the Nursery and ranging in size and price, from £19.99 - £31.99.
