Camellia's are one of the Duchy of Cornwall
Nursery's real specialisms. At the last count we were offering
240 different varieties, some in more than one size.
Most of our range is in 2 litre pots, about 45-60cm tall,
priced at £7.50. There are some varieties in 5 litre pots,
about 75-90cm, priced at £17.50 and some in 35 litre pots,
1.5-2m tall, at £89.95.
The flowering season for Camellias starts in the autumn with
the sasanqua varieties, many of which are scented. The earliest
japonica and x williamsii hybrids start flowering in late
December or early January and carry on until May. Most varieties
are in flower for 4 to 8 weeks though some newer varieties,
notably 'Takanini', have a much longer season.
Camellias need soil on the acid side of neutral and most will
grow happily in sun or shade. In full sun they will need a good
root run free of competition or they will become stressed and
the leaves turn yellow. Generally they flower more freely in
good light. |
